About the studio

The Open Studio was created at and under the patronage the Gallery of Art in Legnica in 2003. The supreme idea of its creation was to enable young people from Legnica, especially the most gifted ones, to participate in art classes conducted by a professional artist.

As for July 2005, over 200 meetings, including courses, lectures, artistic activities, happenings, open-air jaunts, had been organized within the Open Studio, attended free-of-charge by young people from Legnica and its surroundings.

Unfortunately, in August 2005 the Studio had to discontinue its operations due to lack of infrastructure (base) and funds.

The Studio was reactivated on 12 Sep 2007 under the name of Open Art Studio, administrated by an artist Dagmara Angier-Sroka.

The classes organized within the Studio are free of charge. Their main task is to form both artistic skills and sensitive perception of the world by young people. High school students (and other) interested in art have an opportunity to develop their talent and hobbies in Legnica under the care of a professional artist. The Studio classes fulfill knowledge acquired at school and they develop participants’ skills in a creative way. They should be found attractive especially by people preparing to the exams to art universities and wishing to find jobs connected with visual art, including computer graphics, visual advertising, media, jewellery, architecture, theatre. It is necessary that theoretical activity in the Studio is supplemented with lectures on art history and theory.

Although the classes have become very popular (some of them were attended by an impressive number of 70 people), the Studio has been struggling with various problems since the beginning. The first and most serious problem is the premises. A few times the Studio has been deprived of rooms in which the classes were due to be performed. The second problem involves lack of funds for the renovation of these rooms and for activity of the Studio.

In spite of these problems and lack of room the Studio carries on with its activity. Every Wednesday 3.00-6.00 p.m. young people meet in the Gallery of Art in Legnica, but we hope that soon the classes will be regularly organized in a new location of the Studio. With this hope in mind, we kindly invite you to support our idea in any way and you are welcome to take part in our events and lectures.

Studio assumptions:

1. OAS is a place where a chance to commune with art works will be given to everybody, as soon as they feel like trying their luck in any of artistic fields: painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography and other formal searches
2. The main job of OAS is to develop artistic sensivity of young people through diverse practical activities and extending knowledge about art history and theory.
3. Thanks to OAS classes their participants will acquire basic art skills, essential in design-based professions: computer graphics, jewellery, architecture, theatre etc.
4. OAS will serve as a means to unite the environment of young people of Legnica interested in art in every sense of the word.
