The Silver Gallery Under the Quails Basket was
founded in 2003 as a branch of the Gallery of Art in Legnica, which has been
widely representing contemporary art and promoting contemporary jewellery for
over 30 years, including, famous abroad, as well as at home, International Silverart
Competition and Legnica Festival of Silver SILVER.
The Gallery took its name from the Renaissance
tenement in which it is located and which in turn took its name from a
nest-shaped corner bay window. The tenement dates back to the 16th
century and is one of the oldest and most beautiful secular buildings in
Legnica. One of its two elevations is adorned with very narrative graffiti,
depicting scenes from Aesop's Fables, among others.
The Gallery specializes in promotion and sale
of artistic jewellery, mainly made of silver. Both the exterior location in a
charming Renaissance tenement in the city centre and interior tastefully
designed by an artist from Legnica, Grzegorz Niemyjski, - make the Gallery
unique, not only in the city area.
The Gallery regularly collaborates with dozens
of designers from the whole country, exhibiting and selling their unique
jewellery. The designers are comprised of people from various generations and
of various artistic output.
Additionally, the Gallery presents and promotes
silversmiths, regularly organizing individual exhibitions of their works. In
here vernissages of exhibitions of renowned Polish and foreign artists take
place, as does an exhibition called DEBUTS, traditionally held during the
Legnica Festival of Silver and presenting the profile of an artist making his
or her first steps on the jewellery market but at the same time promising.
Throughout the year of existence, the Gallery
has become a permanent element of the structure of Legnica market square, a
characteristic and unique place not only for shopping but also for social and
artistic meetings. Currently it is kept by Krystyna Trzeciak and Emilia
Szelążek who create its original style and climate.
